The Care to Rewear and Repair initiative aims to educate the community on the intrinsic value of textiles and prevention of disposing them in landfill. Distributed through the EMRC Circular Economy Team which imparts knowledge, organises workshops, events and behavioural change campaigns for the community, schools and local government agencies. In addition to delivering the renowned clothes swap initiative, the EMRC is embarking on a journey into the world of repair and craftsmanship. Our community is invited to participate in Sashiko workshops, lino printing, botanical dyeing, and more!
In 2023, the EMRC organised over 26 clothes swaps across our members Council areas, extending our reach to all Councils. Through these events a total of 2 tonnes of clothing were diverted from landfill and garments donated to various charities, including the Homeless Support Group in Bassendean and Dress for Success in Subiaco.
Is to enhance community engagement by bridging the intergenerational gap in knowledge sharing, with a particular focus on the skills of sewing, repairing, mending and reusing. We strive to preserve and revive these invaluable practices while fostering meaningful relationships across generations. Our goal is to create a supportive network rooted in sustainability and shared wisdom.
The EMRC also offer education by loaning resources, games and boxes, to communities and school groups.
